Athanasios P. Vavatsikos was born in 1975 in Ioannina. He is a graduate of the Zosimaia School (Experimental Gymnasium of Ioannina) and the 4th General High School of Ioannina (1993). In 2000 he received the Diploma in Civil Engineering from the School of Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace. From April 2001 to December 2002, he was employed as a technical advisor to the Managing Director in the housing program of E.I.Y.A.P.O.E. In September 2003 he was accepted as a PhD candidate at the Department of Production Engineering & Management and received his PhD in March 2008. From 2000 to 2013 and practiced his freelance profession as a Civil Engineer-GIS Analyst based in Xanthi. During this period, he was an external collaborator of the regional unit of the Geologic and Mineral Exploitations Institute. (11/2007-11/2013). He served as a consultant of the Deputy Minister of Development, Competitiveness and Maritime Affairs (11/2011-5/2012). and he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Social Centre “Stavros Chalioris”. He is member of the Hellenic Operational Research Society (HELORS) and of the Technical Chamber of Greece and has been elected member of the Delegation of the Thrace Regional Section.
From December 2013 he has been serving as a Lecturer at the Department of Production Engineering & Management in the research area of “Spatial Decision Support Systems” (Government Gazette 1417/6-12-2013, Vol.C) and from May 2018 he is serving as Assistant Professor (Government Gazette 479/27-04-2018, Vol.C). He has taught/teaches the courses “Decision Support Systems”, “Project Management”, “Financial Engineering”, “Database Management Systems”, “Geographical Information Systems”, “Managerial Accounting” and “Financial Management”. He has also provided lectures at the Departments of “Industrial Informatics” and “Mechanical Engineering” in the Technological Institute of Kavala. He has taught at the “Organization & Management of Technical Systems” and currently at the “Innovation, Technology and Business Management” MSc programs.
He is a co-author of 3 chapters in edited volumes, 24 scientific journal papers and 3 journal articles published by professional institutions. He has made announcements in 73 national and international conferences. He has been invited 2 times in workshops of the Thrace regional department of Technical Chamber of Greece as a lecturer in topics related to his research interests. He is a referee in more than 20 international scientific journals and according to Google Scholar his work has received more than 800 citations. He has supervised 40 Diploma and 6 MSc Diploma Dissertations.
