Erasmus+ Program
Erasmus+ is the EU program for Education, Training, Youth and Sports and the amalgamation of existing EU programs in the fields of education, training, and youth. The aim of Erasmus+ is to improve skills and employability, as well as to modernize education, training and youth systems. Democriitus University of Thrace has been actively involved since 1996 – the Department of Production and Management Engineering since 2004, acting as a host and a source for hundreds of incoming and outgoing students and professors of both Democritus University as well as foreign institutions participating in the Erasmus Mobility Program. Το Δ.Π.Θ. Study Program
On the basis of the bilateral agreements that DUTH has concluded with foreign institutions based on academic relevance between departments, our students can move to study at one of these institutions, for a period that cannot be less than 3 months or more than one year. This period is determined by a Bilateral Agreement. The Erasmus+ Program offers students a grant to cover the additional costs students will face, exemption from tuition fees abroad and recognition of the period of studies they spend at the foreign university.
Internship Program
The purpose of the program is:
• the acquisition of professional experience related to the subject of study
• getting to know the requirements of the European market
• getting to know and understanding the economic and cultural conditions of other European countries
Unlike moblity programs for studying, there are no bilateral agreements that stipulate restrictions on moblity when it comes to internships, but the students themselves have to search for the host institution and ensure that they are accepted for the specific period they are interested. Scholarships are granted for a period of internship abroad which can vary between two (2) and twelve (12) months. At Democritus University of Thrace, it is recommended to schedule an internship for a period of 3 – 4 months. Placing students for internships in companies supports the development of students’ professional skills and for this reason the subject of the internship abroad should be relevant to their field of study. The Erasmus+/Traineeships internship period abroad is fully recognized as long as there is a corresponding period in the student’s curriculum. Otherwise, the internship period should be stated in the Diploma Appendix.
Erasmus+ applications
Interested students in each academic year can submit an application of interest for studies or internship after the relevant announcement by the professor managing the Erasmus+ program, Assistant Professor Dr. Alexandros Xanthopoulos, on the department’s website and on the notice board. The required supporting documents and the selection criteria for studies and internship with the Erasmus+ program are defined in the relevant call for expression of interest.
