Course Description
Initially, basic concepts are developed and elements from information theory and the decision-making process are studied, such as the organisational and managerial foundations of ICs, their role, as well as the organisational and managerial changes they bring to the business and are the driving force for the emerging digital business. This is followed by a detailed consideration of the components of an MIS (hardware, software, databases, telecommunication networks) that form the IT infrastructure of the organization and the role of Internet technology in creating an infrastructure for digital integration. It then describes the role of IT in enhancing business processes and management decision making across the enterprise. Decision support systems and management support systems that enhance a firm’s performance by helping managers make better decisions are also described. Finally, it is discussed how firms can use information systems to redesign their organizational and management processes and how successful PAs depend on understanding the business value of the systems and managing the changes associated with them. In conclusion, the need to ensure that the right set of technologies, policies, and procedures are in place to ensure the quality, security, and control of information systems is addressed
