The student group Democritus Industrial Robotics (DIR) was founded in the spring of 2018 by the initiative of two students, who learned about the RoboCup competition and decided to form a team made up of people with a common passion for robotics.
Students from all departments of the Engineering School of Democritus University of Thrace, located in Xanthi, participate in DIR.
The main goal of the team is to represent the university and the country in the RoboCup international competition in the Robo@Work category by building and programming an autonomous robotic system with an industrial application (pick and place). During the preparation, in addition to our own know-how, we also aim to pass on the knowledge we gain through training programs we organize and events we participate in.
The group operates under the auspices of DUTH and under the supervision of its scientific coordinator, Dr. Antonios Gasteratos, Professor of the Department of Production Engineering and Management, and collaborates directly with the Laboratory of Robotics and Automation.
Finally, DIR is honored to be one of two startup teams worldwide selected by RoboCup’s Visiting Fellows Program.
