Project Duration: 30 months
Total Budget: €1,522,117.80

Project Partners: Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, Sakarya Governorship, Democritus University of Thrace, Lanchkhuti Municipality
The PURE RIVERS Project is an international cooperation initiative addressing river pollution as a shared environmental challenge in the Black Sea Basin. The project focuses on the Evros River (Greece-Türkiye), the Sakarya River (Türkiye), and the Supsa River (Georgia).
The main objective of the project is to assess pollution levels in the target rivers through scientific and standardized methods, develop restoration and mitigation measures, and ultimately improve the ecological health of these river systems. To achieve this goal, the project will establish a common methodology for pollution assessment and monitoring, strengthen the technical capacity of project partners, conduct water and sediment analyses, and prepare and implement river cleaning and restoration action plans with stakeholder involvement.
PURE RIVERS also aims to provide scientific evidence and practical solutions for decision-makers, local and regional authorities, research institutions, civil society organizations, and local communities. The expected outcomes of the project include improved water quality, stronger environmental awareness, support for policy development in river management, and enhanced protection of ecosystems across the Black Sea region.
